A national government was in great hurry to add prison capacity. However, administrative procedures to build new prison would delay these for many years.

Chevalier Floatels offered the solution to make floating prisons. Mooring permits in ports were quickly obtainable and with the large infrastructure of ports and rivers in country, mooring places were amply available.

Together with a partner company, Chevalier Floatels redeveloped two floating refugee centers into fully fledged prisons. The conversion scope consisted of building prison cells with ensuite bathrooms, exercise yards, recreational areas, management areas. Also, a full sprinkler system was installed, and all the high-tech security measures required to operate a prison. Each unit housed 450  inmates. When during the operation of the barges a big fire safety audit was conducted in all the prisons of the country, our two barges were the only prisons passing this test complying fully to the fire safety rules.
